Can you introduce yourself and tell me a little bit about what you are doing for work, and what your role is?

“My name is Ilario Giordanelli and I'm working currently as a technical AI product owner and data scientist.”

What made you choose SIT Learning?

“When I was working at Contovista as a consultant, there were colleagues from the analytics team both of whom completed the data science Bootcamp at SIT Learning. They were very enthusiastic about the course and claimed that they had learned a lot. So it made me curious, and I decided to do the same.”

What was your biggest challenge during the Bootcamp?

“I did the part-time boot camp, so it took place after work in the evening, which was definitely part of the challenge. Additionally, the program covered a lot of material in a very short time and we cover very many different topics.

I was lucky to have had background knowledge of the theories and statistics beforehand. I also had some coding experience throughout my studies at ETH which helped me a lot, especially for the chapter on Python. There is also just so much information to process in a short amount of time. I just was fortunate enough to have a background in the topics already, so I was able to keep up with the speed of the course.”

What was the most interesting or helpful topic that you learned during the program?

“Definitely all the advanced machine learning classes. I also enjoyed deep learning and natural language processing, which was something new to me and very interesting.”

What does It take to be an SIT student?

“You definitely need a high degree of discipline to learn and apply new techniques. You also need to be willing some extra hours to complete the course.”

How was the learning experience different from any other?

“The boot camp is programming oriented. Coming from the ETH I was used to focusing strongly on theory, but the Data Science Bootcamp was the opposite. The focus was strongly on applying, machine learning and other techniques directly to real-world problems. I liked this perspective a lot, I learned so much. I also liked that the program gives you a lot of tools that you can then directly use in everyday life.”

Thanks a lot for the interview, Ilario. We wish you all the best for your professional and private future.
